I Dress for the World I See

The term Brown, or in Old English, brún, referred to any dusky or dark shade of color with a glistening quality. Going back to the 1100s, the word for the color brown around the world often came from foods or beverages, like coffee, chocolate, chestnuts, mushrooms or tea.

Today we use the color brown to dress ourselves in a casual and smart way. The combination of black and brown has been one of my all-time favourite combinations. It is classy and smart, elegant and casual for all hours of the day. It exudes solidity and dependability; thus, black and brown is perfect for business, daytime events, lunches, and early afternoon cocktails.

For the past year, this year, and next year, brown will remain one of the most sought-after colours. Brown is created by mixing the three primary colors: red, yellow, and blue. Right there, we have the answer to how not to dress in a drab brown color alone.

Stylistically, we want to create outfits that have a presence, without being necessarily too fashionable. With brown, we want to create an aura of mystery assembled from intuition, rather than a formula, just like I did for this photoshoot. I created a relationship between myself, my colors and the world around me, which, in that moment, was my garden.
If I were going to a semi-formal or formal event, the brown outfit would have looked totally different with gold and pearls.
We must not stop at pairing brown with red, yellow and blue or black. Take note from nature; it is the greatest inspiration.

“I Dress for the World I See.” It isn’t really a title about clothing. It’s a statement about how I perceive life—through colors, details, atmospheres, beauty, and my own points of view.
How about you? How does brown make you feel? Ciao.
