The Art Of Mixing and Matching | Valentina Cirasola | Designer

Welcome to my Friday episode of fashion.
Have you found yourself in the situation of looking at your closet full of clothes and saying you have nothing to wear? It’s a common problem most women have.
The reasons for that are attributed to price of clothes being too affordable, discounts, special offers for any kind of holiday and buying on impulse.

To control a wardrobe is easier than you think.
1. Buy only the clothes you need.
2. Buy only items that look good on you for your shape and complexion.
3. Buy mostly solid colors and only a few items with prints.
4. Buy items that are easy to mix and match with other items in your closet.

If you master this concept, it will be so much easier to get dressed in the morning even if it is dark.

This red and ochre combination is easy on the eye, but vibrant for any season. The 3/4 sleeves red top is light enough for Spring, Summer and Fall. The animal print bag is red on the other side and adds a rhythm to the ensemble. With that large buckle on the bag, I would go with a golden pair of shoes and golden tone accessories.

Make it a summer combination:
change the ochre color pants for a white pants, white sandals, white sunglasses and a red hat.
Take away the birds Salvatore Ferragamo’s scarf and substitute it for a knitted net shawl like this one from Free People.

Make it a winter combination:
Leaving the red top and animal print bag, change the pants to a darker color,  black, brown, grey or even red, wear shoes the same colors of the pants, it will visually elongate your legs, or ankle boots, add a waist length jacket with gold buttons and a red fedora hat, why not?
You will be  ready, in a smart winter outfit, to go from work, to happy hours or to a restaurant.

Mixing and Matching is an art that will save you money and will always give you a smart glow.

You have looked at your clothes for a long time, a fresh eye will see different things than you do.
I am here ready to help. Ciao,
Valentina

Valentina this is a delightful post. Here, people wear such dull things. I see so much black every day of the year. So I go out of my way to compliment people when they wear a color. At first I felt insulted when coworkers would comment that I must spend hours getting ready each morning. Because to me it was a no brainer. When asked “how?” I started telling them to start with a column of neutral then add a color with the jacket or focus piece.
Anyway, I loved the leopard print bag with red accents. Actually, I like red and brown together.
    Have a color-filled, hug-filled weekend.

Teagan, here too people wear only black and to me it feels as they are mourning their life. I go through that same situation you describe everyday. People ask me why I dress up everyday. Maybe to them it looks as if I do it on purpose, but in reality they dress to cover their body, without paying any attention to their character, personality or body shapes. Getting compliments is fine, but feeling their envy eyes on me is not. I can’t adapt to black or looking sloppy, I have respect for myself and that’s the way it continue to be. 😁

This is such a timely article for me, Valentina. Over the last few weeks I’ve been thinking of reorganising my closet and getting rid of so many clothes. It is proving hard because many pieces of clothing are of sentimental value to me. Really like your ideas on controlling the wardrobe and making sure each piece can be worn on more than one occasion and maybe even more than one season. Never been one to buy clothes with prints (unless they are a music band’s shirt and those can be comfy). Usually I like having clothes for work and clothes for play separate – but over the years I’ve realised both can overlap.

Nice suggestions! And ones I constantly need. Some people look pulled together all the time — I’m just hit or miss.
