The Latest Dandies Of Italy | Valentina Cirasola | Designer

Girl-Pink-Green-1aHere we are in Laterza, in a picturesque canyon of karst origin, in the deep boot of Italy, almost facing the Ionian Sea at 362 mt above sea level. The music in the air makes the town festive, kiosks are selling everything and anything, the voices of the vendors scream to have the best of their products and tall illuminations decorate the dark night sky. There are people everywhere, we can’t actually walk, we are pushing and shoving each other in a tight crowd to get to the center town where the city brass band dressed in official uniform will play classical music on stage.

It’s May 20th and the town is celebrating Holy Mary Mater Domini, she is the patron of the town and in her honor everyone makes an effort to appear in their best attires. And dresses up to their teeth they are!
I am truly impressed with the youth, male teenagers and their fashion clothing. I call them the latest dandy of Italy. They are all dressed in the same fashion, of course teenagers need to have reinforcement from their peers, they need to fit in and feel accepted. Nonetheless the attires strike as being very smart, really clean, posh and respectable.

They are wearing a papillon (bow tie) over a nice shirt, with or without bretelles (suspenders), fitted skinny jeans, short jacket,  cardigan or trench, loafers or designer walking shoes. The hair is very short at the sides of the face and in the back of the neck, but full and all pushed to the top of the head. The look is funky but fun. Finally, we will not see crotches down to the knees showing underpants and butt cheeks anymore, I was so tired of the obscene views in the grunge style. I am convinced that being well dressed and groomed will push good manners to come out of the closet. I strongly believe that clothes make the person, as a book is judged by its cover.

On this night, I noticed the youngsters politely asking if the empty chair next to me at my table was occupied, I noticed the girlfriend be seated before them, I heard many thanks and you’re welcome being pronounced. I also noticed they sit with a straight posture and walk with an elegant stride. After all is said and done, I noticed the dandies of Laterza are all heading with their girlfriends or family towards San Lorenzo Church to honor the Holy Mary.
Welcome dandies, welcome good manners and welcome clean style. Ciao,
Valentina

I love men well dressed and these young guys, of course they are Italians, they know how to do it.
I was making a face to the person in my group, you know one of those relaxed moments.
